THE STUDENT COOKBOOK

BY Bernice Chung

The Cookbook is an annual publication made up entirely of recipes submitted by students, for students.

Whether your signature dish is toast and the entirety of your cooking experience is watching Tasty videos on Facebook, or you whip up dishes worthy of a Michelin star – the Cookbook is your back pocket guide for simple, delicious meals. The Cookbook volunteers test, edit, photograph and design the recipes and turn them into a real-life publication – and you can bet there’s plenty of eating involved!

We top it all off with a book launch in May at the Roundhouse, and it’s a massive celebration of UNSW’s favourite recipes. There’s live music, cooking competitions and demonstrations, not to mention a showcase of some of the incredible recipes that are chosen for the book – so plenty of free food and drinks! You can also grab a copy of the Cookbook to recreate your favourites at home.

The theme of this year’s Cookbook is ‘The Students’ Shared Table’. Why? We hate the feeling of food envy too, so instead we’re all about piling a little bit of everything on your plate. You know that one dish you really hope is going to come out of the kitchen next when you’re sitting around the dinner table? That’s exactly what we want to feature this year; the food that you love to share with others.

Think you’re a bit of a foodie and want to get involved? We are now taking recipe submissions! This is your chance to have your work published and up in lights. Tell us your recipes that impress a crowd and are too good to keep to yourself. It can be anything from your favourite go-to dish for wowing family and friends, or that bizarre combination of pantry staples you throw together as a midnight snack for your roommate and yourself. Every single submission goes in the running to win amazing prizes like vouchers from your favourite restaurants and cooking classes.
