"The topic of the self has long been salient in feminist philosophy, for it is pivotal to questions about personal identity, the body, sociality, and agency that feminism must address.
When I was growing up I was expected to be who my parents wanted me to be, when I became an adult I was expected to be who society wanted me to be. As I grew older and wiser, becoming myself became an act of defiance in a patriarchal world that expected me to be polite and silent.
This exhibition is about personal identity in regards to the effects of domestic violence and how certain identity aspects are imposed on us by our patriarchal society." - Aria-Joshes Waterford
