The Arc Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Oscar Iredale was unanimously elected as the Chair of the Board on 25 June 2024.
Oscar is a current 4th year Arts/Law Student who has maintained an active presence in student life throughout their time at UNSW including Executive roles within UNSW Law Society. Oscar has also served two years as Arc’s Honorary Treasurer.
Oscar said of their appointment,
“I am excited to be taking such an important leadership role within an organisation which has given me so much throughout my university career. This is an important opportunity for me to give back. I am also excited about using my experiences, connections and relationships across UNSW to improve the student experience.”
In their year-long tenure as Chair of the Arc Board, Oscar will oversee the strategic direction of one of the largest student organisations in Australia as they deliver on their mission to create the best student experience. The Arc Board of Directors is comprised of 15 people, the majority of which are current UNSW students – with 8 student directors plus the SRC President & PGC President.
When asked about their priorities for the next 12 months as the Chair of the Arc Board, Oscar said,
“Over the next 12 months I am committed to strengthening Arc's relationship with the university and continuing to push for favourable funding conditions to enable Arc to continue to deliver and expand its high-quality services and opportunities to students. Student welfare is a particular priority for me, and I am committed to keeping my ear to the ground and working to improve Arc's offerings to best support students. I have been particularly impressed with the expansion of Arc Wellness and the targeted support that programs like Food Hub have been delivering during the cost-of-living crisis which uniquely impacts upon university students. As a student board director with two years' experience, I am also excited to mentor and explore development opportunities for newer directors joining us in 2024 on the board.”

Also elected at the meeting were Sam Baker as Honorary Treasurer, Ella Davidson as Audit & Risk Chair, Oliver Pike as Nominations & Remunerations Chair and Aania Cheema as Student Development Convenor.
