On 16th of October the annual Arc Club Awards kicked off with plenty of food, mini golf, a photo-booth and fascinating entertainment by Circusoc – The UNSW Circus Society. In showing appreciation to the wide range of Clubs, there were eight separate awards presented with eleven nominated finalists. Naturally, the most prestigious award of the year is ‘Club of Year’. This award recognises the Club that has made a significant contribution to UNSW student life and to a vibrant campus community. Not surprisingly, it was the Filipino Students’ Society that triumphed this year, after its relaunch from “FILOSOC” (Filipino Students’ Society of UNSW) in 2017 to new branding and a new constitution this year. The Club has been particularly successful in harnessing the Filipino identity of its members and promoting the Filipino culture at UNSW through its many food and cultural events.
The ‘New Club of the Year’ is also a popular award, and is given to a Club that was started in the last 18 months. Already in high demand, with over 300 signed-up members and over 250 followers on Facebook, the Yoga Club could proudly take the win at this year’s awards. The main goal of the Club is to provide affordable yoga classes to students at $8 (Arc members) per session, as well as a safe environment to practice yoga. The classes are especially great for students to manage stress and well-being.
More than anything, the Club Awards are hosted every year to appreciate students for the enthusiasm they bring to the Clubs, and the brilliant results they are able to achieve while doing so. Congratulations to all Clubs, both small and big!
